Response to Hill's Main Blog
I absolutely love The Hangover and both of the
sequels. I agree with Hill that they are
definitely some of the funniest movies in recent history. All of the videos in the links were great and
have made me want to go back and watch them all again. These are the scenes that everyone remembers,
but even the less popular scenes from the films have so many underrated lines that
it is impossible to know them all. One
of my favorite obscure lines from the first movie comes when Chow and his bodyguards
ram Phil, Stu, and Alan while they are driving in the Mercedes. The bodyguards have taken Alan’s purse, which
he continues to call a satchel, because they thought that it was Chow’s purse
with a lot of money in poker chips in it.
One of the larger guards throws it on the ground and Alan, in the most
serious and offended voice possible, says “Hey! There are Skittles in there!” My family and I quote this line all of the
time. Whenever one of us drops
something, someone will always say “Hey! There are Skittles in there!” We have to watch who is around when we say it
though because it definitely draws some crazy looks when taken out of
context. In my opinion, the sheer amount
of humor that is crammed into each and every scene from all three movies has definitely
impacted the films’ success. In this
regard, The Hangover is very similar to
The Office because it too is crammed
full of non-stop laughs. I also agree
with Hill that multiple theories of humor are used throughout the movies and I
think that this contributes to their popularity as well. By incorporating multiple types of humor and
packing each scene to the bursting point with comedic gold, the writers of The Hangover ensured that there would be
some humor to fit almost everyone’s style or liking.
It's true what you say that it was very much part of the "overstuffed" comedy craze. Is it a coincidence that stuffed crust pizza came out at the same time? I think not. Seriously though, what do you think makes this brand of humor different from the past and how did it get started?
ReplyDeleteI love when I watch vines or movies with my family and we all adopt a quote to start using constantly. When I'm with my sisters one of them will un-ironically say "hey you guys", and my other sibling and I will repeat it how it's said in the Goonies.
